Evaluate Reflection

Standard D :  The online teacher promotes student success through clear expectations, prompt responses, and regular feedback. Evaluate 1- Quality Feedback Feedback taught me that when giving feedback, I need to recognize how hard the student has worked.  Students will be much more into hearing things that need to be improved on if they know you see how they tried their best. I often hear from one sweet girl, "Well, I tried my best". Bless her. I tell her all the time to not cry, that I'm very proud of her. She is so hard on herself. She wants everything to be perfect.  I like showing student exemplars to show what to strive for.  Many years ago with a former principal, she had exemplars enlarged and placed in the halls for students and families to see what is expected at each grade level. Standard G:  The online teacher demonstrates competencies in creating and implementing assessments in online learning environments in ways that ensure validity and re...

Evaluate 3 - Self Reflection

Image
The above artifacts are of my recent TKES evaluation.  I was working with students after a math test.  The scores range from 1-4, with 4 being the highest score. We've always been told that it is very rare to get a 4.  All teachers have things to work on. :( I think I have strengths in communication with parents and students. I am always posting on remind to inform parents of things in our classroom, updating my website, answering emails, sending out newsletters weekly, etc.  I always think of it as I want to know about my own personal kids classrooms, and I would be very happy with this type of communication for their teachers.  My students know that I love them dearly. They come to me when they are upset and cry on my shoulder, and want to tell me about everything they are doing outside of the classroom. We celebrate their successes. I want it to be an inviting classroom where they are free to learn and explore.  They know what is expec...

Evaluate 3 - Personalized Teaching and Learning

Image
The following data shows how students performed on Reading fluency, accuracy, and retelling of the stories.  Each group below shows what I will do to create personalized learning paths.  Students that are "well below benchmark"  (needing remediation) will require different reading instruction from the teacher. They are in need of more phonics instruction, rhyming words, simple cvc pattern words, nursery rhymes, listening to books on tape, and basic reading materials.  These students struggle greatly due to not being on grade level. These students scores reflect that of a late K student.  Those "below grade level" will also require a different type of instruction. These students are on the right track, but are still not performing on the second grade level.  They need some phonics as well, reading instruction, as well as vocabulary practice.  Those students scoring "above benchmark"  (enrichment) are ready for upper second grade/third grade readi...

Evaluate 2 - Competencies

Image
The following activities are with second grade students.  STANDARD: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.2.7 Use information gained from the illustrations and words in a print or digital text to demonstrate understanding of its characters, setting, or plot. After reading the required assignment, the student will make a flip book showing competency in demonstrating understanding of its characters, setting, and plot.  young students often work better when doing a hands on activity.  After completing the assignment, each student will log into their Seesaw account and retell their flip book.  This will help the teacher in seeing if they can recall what they have read and written about the literature.  After the teacher approves the content, other classmates will also be able to see what their classmates are doing. They may also comment on their content if it is an approved comment. The second activity will include students doing the "five finger retell". They will...

Evaluate 2 - Data Instruction & Analysis

Image 1: This image shows enrollment in three courses assigned, when classes start and end, and how many students are enrolled in each section. Image 2: The teacher can see the student type, whether they've completed an orientation module or not, if they've dropped, and whether or not each student plans to take a state standardized test  (EOC).  Specific student names, parent contact info, and other data are available right in one place for you. Image 3:  The communication log is a way for teachers to see how stakeholders can be contacted.  Some systems automate this process with computer generated calls and emails and automatically log those. Different systems may require the teacher to manually track communication. Image 4: This communication image relates to a student who performed well in a course.  While it would be easy to refrain from contacting stakeholders in this situation, this teacher made an effort to send the parents good news.  An excel...

Evaluate 1 - Summative Assessments

Unit assessment The validity of an assessment is questioning what was taught.  Did it measure what was taught?  Reliability is looking at the results and are they consistent.  We have always know that when making an assessment, you should always keep in mind the end results.  We need to look at make sure you are testing the standards that you are supposed to be teaching.  After the test is given, the teacher must take the data and determine if the test was a reliable test or not.  To control the security of an assessment, you could set a time limit that is strict and as short as possible. You should also draw from a question bank with more than twice as many questions as the assessment gives any one student. You should also decide if students will be allowed to go back to previous questions or offer multiple attempts at the assessment. After the assessment is given and the results are disaggregated, you could determine the validity and reliability. I...

Evaluate 1 - Quality Feedback

Image
Evaluate 1 - Quality Feedback Alysha's reading fluency The above picture shows where I am able to make comments to the student.  This student is a great reader who uses her rate/tone great for a second grade student. On this you will see what I wrote on her Seesaw reading fluency.  She is above benchmark in reading fluency. Students love to read aloud to the camera on this program. They also like to see themselves reading. Parents as well as their peers may watch the videos and make comments. I like that this feature has where I must approve before they are posted.   Feedback is so important for children as well as teachers. Feedback helps the students to understand what is needed to improve on.  Students thrive on positive feedback from their teacher as well as their peers. I can observe her reading and discuss what she is doing well and what she needs to improve on. I like how it is instructional by allowing  other students to see and stri...

Evaluate 1 - Formative Assessments

Image
Google Forms Reading Test  The purpose of this assessment is to quiz on the story, asking who, what, when, why of the story as well as recalling key details in a text.   Students will show on the reading test their knowledge of the reading story for the week.  Students meet weekly with the teacher to go over assessments. The teacher discusses with the student about their progress throughout the week.  I will make sure the students are able to pass the standard before moving on with them. If they need to be retaught, then we will do that for sure. We often have to do that with students at the primary level.  Not everyone gets it the first time. Standards: ELAGSE2RI6: Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe ELAGSE2RL1: Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.

Create Reflection

Image
Create Reflection:       Create has prepared me to meet each of the following standards by giving me the opportunity to create lessons that I would normally not always do.  I've learned various ways to use technology in the online environment.  For Standard B I was able to learn about different tools to help manage time better.  Since I work with primary grades, this tool is better suited for the instructor. Learning how to create a content map was different.  As a classroom teacher, I often use chart paper to create maps/graphs to create the content. Using a computer made it easier actually.  I look forward to creating more content maps with my students as we begin new units in the classroom.  Standard C was about learning the different tools and how to use them in an online classroom. This was very helpful to learn new strategies to use.  Kahoot! has been one that I've used for quite some time. I've used Kahoot games that others...

Create 4 - Aggregating Lesson Material

Create 4 - Aggregating Lesson Material Google Classroom:  Google Classroom is an awesome free web service developed by Google.  Schools use it  to simplify creating, distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. This is a free program.  I haven't used Word in the last probably three years at all.  Many teachers in our school system use Google Classroom. I have used it some, but now we have are not allowed to have them on the computer much at all. My high school daughter has used it for all communication and turning in work and presenting since middle school. Google Classroom Schoology: It is a cloud based LMS. It was created in 2009.  It has resource folders, tracking systems, and communication programs.  It is easy to set up. Students also find that they can log into it easy as well.  That is one thing that you a...

Create 4 - Building Portable Learning Objects

Image
Create 4 - Building Portable Learning Objects The games are to add an element of gaming to my educational course. As teachers, we must compete with multiple gaming systems for the attention of our students.  Mine always say they can't wait to get home to play their games. By creating a game  that has educational value, we are more on their level of the students we are trying to reach.  Games are a good way for teachers to check for student understanding of the material that must be learned.  I used Needs vs. Wants since we teach all subjects. We have to teach these standards within our reading curriculum. Fluency and reading go hand in hand with all subject areas in the primary grades. Students practice fluency when reading any type of material. The game of Kahoot is a fun interactive way to review skills that we have been learning.  The students get to compete against one another.  Anything you can turn into a competition will be fun for students. K...

Create 4 - Learning Object Authoring Tools

A learning object is an interactive stand alone unit of learning that can be taken independently to support an objective or can be incorporated within a module to build instruction or have immediate feedback.  It may be a self assessment quiz, a presentation, or a fun educational game, etc. Kahoot  is a  learning tool  that allows teachers and students to create fun games in order to test knowledge and engage the entire class.  My students love to play this game in class. They have to answer questions and have four choices. It engages the whole class. I can see if I need to go back and reteach certain skills.  It shows them the correct answer and gives points. It shows after each question who is at the top of the leader board. KAHOOT! Game that I have made for my students Peardeck is a learning tool that is also interactive. I love this program. I actually presented this last Spring at our school system Tech Conference.  This program allows you...

Create 3 - Fair Use and TEACH Act

When teachers begin looking for materials to use with their class, they need to review the Fair Use and the TEACH Act.  These two allow us as educators to use copyrighted materials for educational purposes under guidelines. Fair Use has a four guideline test to determine whether or not a use is fair.  The law says that at least four factors should be taken into consideration: -the purpose and character of the use -the nature of the work -the amount of the work actually used -the effect of the use on the potential market of the original work The TEACH Act is the Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization Act. Fair use applies to anyone wanting to use material: while the TEACH Act applies specifically to educators.  These apply to public school educators or accredited nonprofit educational institutions. This Act allows for copyright exemptions only when the following criteria are met: -institution must be accredited -nonprofit education institution -use m...

Create 2 - Web Tools for Differentiation of Student Assessment

Students will be using Seesaw to retell the story they have read. A portion of students will be recording themselves retelling the story. Those that are able to, will record themselves as well as fill out the graphic organizer using details.   One group will be reading only and retelling aloud recording themselves. The other group will be reading aloud  recording as well as completing the story map. Differentated Activity

Create 1 - Appearance

Image
Good Appearance Sites: EngageNY : I have used this site for several years. It plainly lays out grade levels and modules. You just have to click on which you are working on and it will direct you straight there. BrainPop : This site has been also used for quite some time. Our school has a subscription to this site. It has information for students and is interactive. Google Earth : This site is clear and concise. My students get on this sometimes in computer lab. They come back telling me what all they have seen using this site. Khan Academy : This is a free site that I have just become familiar with last school year. It is a free site and is broken up into grade levels and topics. Code : This is a site that I've recently learned about. Our school has recently begun teaching students how to code. I was super excited to pick my kids up from activity today to learn that one of my girls is the best coder in second grade. The above sites have traits that have a good...

Create 2 - Web Tools for Differentiation of Teacher Instruction

Tool: Seesaw Students will be given an assignment to reread the book Families at Work . They will use Seesaw to complete their activity.  Each group will have their differentiated book to practice reading fluency.  Their book is on their level,  therefore making it doable for them to practice their fluency.   Students will be recording themselves reading the first two pages. Next, they will respond using the five finger retell to write about their book. Seesaw Differentiated Retell Activity

Create 2 - Web Tools

Remind This program is wonderful. I use it to contact all parents via their cellphone as a text. I give them quick information needed for the next day. I can also message parents individually. I can choose to have them not be able to respond to me or they can respond. I like this because they always have their phone near them, and they do not have my cell number. This is a free app. Kahoot My students love this game based site. Students are asked questions about a certain topic and play against each other.  Students and teachers can make games for anyone to play. They have their name on the screen and compete for who is winning after each question. This site is also free. Quizlet Teachers can create flashcards, quizzes, and games to study online. They can use it on a desktop or on a handheld device.  My daughter personally uses this site all the time. It is also a free site.   Google Forms This is a Google Drive app. It allows you to create several types...

Create 1- Time Management

Create 1- Time Management 1.     OneNote   OneNote :   This tool is used by first creating a notebook one OneNote. You can then write notes to keep your data organized. OneNote makes it easy to find the notes you have written making it easier on yourself. This tool would be most helpful in a professional setting. When doing work for your job, you can make easy to find file folders taking some stress off of yourself. This would be perfect for students and or professionals doing research projects. I feel like I could use this from an instructor standpoint. It would be easy to find things to use for my classroom and be easily accessible. 2.     Nozbe   Nozbe   This is a system best used personally that allows the user to make tasks for themselves based on the location where the task should be completed. Create 1- Content Map

Name this post:  Create 1- Content Map Next:  Include the following in your blog Answer:  What should be included in the Content Map? What aspects of online learning and technology are essential to integrate in the process? Create:  Isolate a web tool explored in this lesson, and then create a Content Map for the chosen topic using that web tool. Be sure to highlight technology tools used in your lesson plan. Artifact:  Include this content map and a link to the tool used in your blog. Content Map  I created a content map using Bubbl.us.  I focused on Reading Fluency.  I made several sub bubbles to extend off of Reading Fluency.  I added links to some of them to show students what they are to work on in each section to help them with their fluency.  Teachers must be able to navigate the internet and gather resources for their topic.  Teachers can make them on Google Drawings, this site, and many more.

Communicate Reflection

Standard C: Standard C could be covered in the lessons discussions and synchronous sessions.   Discussions Synchronous The discussion lesson talked about how to use active learning among students.  Online discussion boards are used to discuss without the fear or anxiety of speaking out in front of their classmates.  I like how they can comment on each others work.  Synchronous sessions are a way for students to interact with the teacher as they need to.  The online teacher can facilitate a lecture, discussion, chat with students, and even participate in small groups.  They are a way to humanize online learning for children who need interaction. Standard D: Standard D is covered in three lessons: feedback, digital feedback, and evaluation methods.   Feedback Digital Feedback Digital Feedback Feedback is so important to students. It allows them to reflect and see what they need to make improvements on. Digital feedback provides encourag...
