Evaluate 3 - Personalized Teaching and Learning
The following data shows how students performed on Reading fluency, accuracy, and retelling of the stories. Each group below shows what I will do to create personalized learning paths. Students that are "well below benchmark" (needing remediation) will require different reading instruction from the teacher. They are in need of more phonics instruction, rhyming words, simple cvc pattern words, nursery rhymes, listening to books on tape, and basic reading materials. These students struggle greatly due to not being on grade level. These students scores reflect that of a late K student. Those "below grade level" will also require a different type of instruction. These students are on the right track, but are still not performing on the second grade level. They need some phonics as well, reading instruction, as well as vocabulary practice. Those students scoring "above benchmark" (enrichment) are ready for upper second grade/third grade reading, vocabulary practice, reading chapter books, writing and going deeper in to the story, comparing and contrasting reading materials, etc.
Offering students a choice of different ways to master the standards is a great way to set a learning path for your students. As long as the standard is met the student should have the flexibility to achieve that standard in a way that best suits them, whether if its through making a power point, video, or creating games. If they student is interested in it they will more than likely produce better work.
