Communicate Reflection
Standard C: Standard C could be covered in the lessons discussions and synchronous sessions. Discussions
Synchronous
The discussion lesson talked about how to use active learning among students. Online discussion boards are used to discuss without the fear or anxiety of speaking out in front of their classmates. I like how they can comment on each others work. Synchronous sessions are a way for students to interact with the teacher as they need to. The online teacher can facilitate a lecture, discussion, chat with students, and even participate in small groups. They are a way to humanize online learning for children who need interaction.
Standard D: Standard D is covered in three lessons: feedback, digital feedback, and evaluation methods. Feedback
Digital Feedback
Digital Feedback
Feedback is so important to students. It allows them to reflect and see what they need to make improvements on. Digital feedback provides encouragement for students. They love getting them. It can be used as a tool to motivate students. The Evaluation Method can be from the instructor or classmates. This could be very beneficial to the instructor as well.
Standard E: Standard E is covered in lesson 1 Communication Laws.
Communication Laws This lesson talked about FERPA and TCPA and how they relate to online learning. FERPA gives parents protection with their child's records. TCPA restricts telephone solicitations and deals with automated telephone calls to cell phones. Copyright material was also discussed. I know that our school has reminded many of making sure Copyright is never to take place.
Standard J: Standard J is covered in two lessons: Identify stakeholders and ongoing communication.
Identify Stakeholders
Ongoing Communication
Identify Stakeholders discuss who the stakeholders are in your school. Ongoing Communication- we created a newsletter or ongoing announcement for parents and students.
Standard K: Standard K is covered in three lessons: Communication guidelines, Homepages, and News Items.
Communication Guidelines
Homepages
News Items
The communication guidelines I created a welcome message. It is meant to be informative, encouraging, and welcoming to the students. The homepage lesson was used to let students know of important reminders, detailing due dates for work, and links to resources if needed. The news items lesson I created a digital announcement that students can see on a learning platform.
The lessons I found most useful and beneficial to me as an online instructor were the homepage lesson, the digital feedback lesson, and the news items. These are resources that I will be able to use easily as a primary online instructor. I will be able to use the homepage lesson to create an online "bulletin board" for my students. This lesson taught me what needs to be included in the bulletin board and that I need to keep it simple. If we place a lot of information it tends to overwhelm the participate. Feedback is also so important for students and what child doesn't enjoy receiving digital praise. The news item lesson was important because it taught me more ways to send out information to parents and stakeholders and not just through a newsletter. Right now in my traditional classroom we are using Remind. Parents enjoy communicating and receiving important information.
