Navigate 3- Course Creation within LMS

https://www.myhaikuclass.com/anash/anash/cms_page/view I chose PowerSchool Learning to create my class shell since we currently use PowerSchool in our district.   At my grade level, we only do attendance on PowerSchool. I can check my high school child's grades easily with PowerSchool.  I wanted to see what else was available to use. The  first step involved in setting up my page was to  create a class name.  It offered several tutorials for assistance.  The tutorials were short, so I had to look around to make sure I was doing it right.  I had to download the zip file and paste the url link. Once that took place,  I published the page by going to manage class and making it active.  It was a little difficult since we do not use this in the primary grades. It took time to figure it out.  Anytime I wanted to add anything, I would have to follow the steps in the order so the links would be copied and pasted correctly.  This wou...

Navigate 3 - LMS Reporting

The LMS I reviewed for grade reporting was SeeSaw.  Teachers can keep track of what skills or standards students are working on in class.  You can assign a 1-4 star rating to get a real time understanding of how students are progressing.  The ratings are color coded. I like how you can view it easily to see what standards they have mastered. This makes it easier to see when trying to discuss with parents.  This is great for a standards based report cards like our system has.  Students and parents do not have access to this portion, so this is something I can share during conferences.  I like how students can write in their journal, they can record themselves reading or retelling a story, or they can take pictures and diagram their work.

Navigate 3- LMS Tool Categories

Name this post:  Navigate 3- LMS Tool Categories Next:  Include the following in your blog Explore:  Identify the major tool categories in Learning Management Systems. Answer:  What are the most relevant features offered within an LMS?  Which features directly relate to effective online instruction?  How might you use these features in the online classroom environment? There are several tools in a Learning Management System. There are school announcement tools, blogs, journals, electronic mail, and calendar to name a few.  School level announcements provide information about deadlines and other key information to students, faculty and staff, parents, etc.  We use the program REMIND. I send out information that I think parents will need to remember, such as field trip reminders, money payment due dates, as well as pictures of students working on projects in class. This is delivered to their cell via text. I like this because parents seem ...

Navigate 2 - LMS Trends

While researching digital learning trends, I selected gamification. Students love to compete with each other in the classroom using paper and pencil, but also love competing using digital games. My class has been using KAHOOT for the last two years. The teacher can make a game based on the skills they are currently learning, or they may find games that are already made. Students compete against each other. They go crazy when they see their name at the top of the leader board after each question. I love the fact that they can see if they got the correct answer or not.  This is a great way to review material taught in class. Some teachers may choose to use  this as a review before an assessment, or as a test grade. All students are actively engaged. That is what I like most about this type of learning. It is often difficult when the teacher is up front instructing having all students engaged at the same time. While teachers walk around the room during a Kahoot game, she can eas...

Navigate 2 - Tools for Deciding on an LMS

I am so excited to learn that while  researching tools for an LMS, I found out that SeeSaw is the perfect LMS for primary students.  My students love this program, as well as parents.  First of all, it is a free program.  SeeSaw allows students to record their learning and easily share it with their teacher. Parents  sign up and see their child's work. Many have asked how often will they be working in SeeSaw. They want to see what is going on in the classroom. They feel like they are more connected.  They can even comment on their learning. I've had parents type back to their child saying we are going to work on reading at home each night. I think it is a great way to show parents active learning. It is also a great way to show parents how they grow throughout the school year. Another great reason to use this program is for the differentiation that it provides. We are always being told to show how we differentiate our students. Administrators can easily see...
