Answer: What are the most relevant features offered within an LMS?  Which features directly relate to effective online instruction?  How might you use these features in the online classroom environment?

There are several tools in a Learning Management System. There are school announcement tools, blogs, journals, electronic mail, and calendar to name a few.  School level announcements provide information about deadlines and other key information to students, faculty and staff, parents, etc.  We use the program REMIND. I send out information that I think parents will need to remember, such as field trip reminders, money payment due dates, as well as pictures of students working on projects in class. This is delivered to their cell via text. I like this because parents seem to always be near their cell phone.  Blogs are used many times to write about a certain topic a teacher may give, or in response to a literature piece worked on in small groups. We have KidBlog at our school that teachers use. We use SeeSaw to journal with students. They can respond to a picture or task. The teacher can discuss with them their writing piece and the student then can go back and edit for corrections. Classmates can also comment on each other's blog. Journals are a lot like blogs.  Electronic mail is a great way to communicate with students about assignments, important dates for school as well as classmates to communicate with each other. We live by our electronic mail as teachers. Vital information from the county office, school office as well as other teachers, students and parents is sent through electronic mail.  We have a google calendar that is used throughout our school and county. If you want to meet with the tech person, you schedule it through google mail. If you want to see when you have an IEP scheduled, you will find it there as well. It is a great place for everyone to see who is connected to a meeting when and where it will be.
