Navigate 2 - LMS Trends
While researching digital learning trends, I selected gamification. Students love to compete with each other in the classroom using paper and pencil, but also love competing using digital games. My class has been using KAHOOT for the last two years. The teacher can make a game based on the skills they are currently learning, or they may find games that are already made. Students compete against each other. They go crazy when they see their name at the top of the leader board after each question. I love the fact that they can see if they got the correct answer or not. This is a great way to review material taught in class. Some teachers may choose to use this as a review before an assessment, or as a test grade. All students are actively engaged. That is what I like most about this type of learning. It is often difficult when the teacher is up front instructing having all students engaged at the same time. While teachers walk around the room during a Kahoot game, she can easily see who is struggling with certain answers. This can help her pinpoint what she may need to reteach to that particular student. I do not think this is a learning fad. I think this is a way for students to be excited about learning. I've been doing this particular game with students for the last three years. It is even more helpful now that we are a 1:1 chrome book school. My students always ask when we can do a Kahoot. I think it is here to stay in my classroom.
