Working with young children, they do not have any experience with digital literacy.  Many are just given a digital device to play with. They have not had any discussions with parents on proper online etiquette.  We have to teach students manners online like we teach using manners in public. Students living in rural areas have limited access to the internet.  If they by chance have internet connection, it is very unreliable.  Some students may have access, but do not how to use it.  If living with Grandparents, they may not have the background knowledge on how to use it.  Some children do not have technology at home at all. We need to educate more people about technology so they will not be so fearful of it.  We can provide a list of where people can go to get free internet. Ex: library, McDonald's, Panera.

1.  I saved my digital resources using Symbaloo.  Here is my Webmix: https://www.symbaloo.com/mix/digitalresources53 3 resources that stuck out to me were: VoiceThread :  VoiceThread enables stu and teachers to upload items and add audio comments. Moodle : Moodle helps teachers and students create custom environments for their needs. LearnBoost : It is for teachers and parents to help track student progress. 2. When helping students collect digital resources, teachers can tell students to look at the end of the web address. They could study the url's closely. Students can double check the domains.   Students can search properly, ex: narrow search topic, put in quotations. 3. Students can send the teacher the link to check them. We need to check to make sure they are using sites that will not collect their information/data.

What would be needed to bring an ideal learning community to fruition?  I would have resources for the students as well as the teachers. Family connections would be an asset to the site. Everyone is looking for what works best for them. Having a variety of choices would be beneficial to them. 2 What can one do to make an existing DLC more attractive to and welcoming for students and teachers? For a student, easy sign in is a must.  Students like graphics and videos.  As a teacher, having a way to incorporate families in the learning experience would be a plus. I like how SeeSaw has these features. It helps parents feel included in their child's day.

*1. Kahn Academy  This is a free program that has instructional videos.  There is a personalized learning dashboard.  You can look for math, science, and much more on this site. *2. Common Sense Media .  This site helps you show students examples of digital citizenship by showing videos and there are lessons for teachers. We have used this due to the age of our students. They need to learn now how their digital footprint lives forever. *3. Eduptopia   This site helps teachers use best practices on a variety of topics related to technology and teaching. I learned that it was founded by George Lucas. 4.  Discovery Education   This is a free program. It has standards based content.  Helps teachers use differentation.  5.  Edmoto   This site uses google apps for education.  There is a parent app where what is taught during the day gets reinforced at night.  This helps the whole family get involved. Digital Citizenship for the primary grades Character traits of a digital citizen commonly are: being safe, protecting your identity, and being respectful of others online, and most importantly being responsible. Many times we hear on the news where students are being bullied online. At the primary level, we are trying to teach students to be respectful of others. You can't hide behind a screen all the time. You should never hurt another child's feelings by saying rude things to them.  We also discuss being responsible by protecting your identity. Students never want to put out important information about their name, age, or where they live.  Students must realize what they put out there will always be there and be able to be found. Hello World out there! I am beginning my blog today! I am so excited to be on this adventure and learn so many new things. I am learning so much about the online learning community.
